Take Time To Read This

Hi all, i want to share a true story that just happened recently to my friend, Tinton whom i went to college with.

He had an accident in Papua, originally to pick his wife from her Civil Duty as doctor, turns out he had a horrific accident during his stay and got burned 71% of his body and barely made it. He's a great guy, faithful husband. Please read below detail full story from his wife, and help me to share this on Twitter, Facebook, MindTalk (Shout)

Here's the Tinton's story..

I (Margareth: Tinton's wife) went to Papua in 2011 to serve my one-year civil duty as part of my doctoral studies from 1 April 2011 – 31 March 2012. Medical doctor is still very rare in Papua. At the end of my duty, Tinton went to Papua to pick me up. As he was there, he was offered a job as a contractor at a hotel’s karaoke room.

The accident happened on 31st March 2012 around 3 PM, Tinton supervised his workers that were working on the room’s carpet. The workers have been working on the carpet for a while, without knowing that the glue released flammable gasses that already filled the whole room. At that moment, a worker was doing a welding job. As he was welding, there was a weird sound “zzzz…zzzz” On the second “zzz” there was a loud blast that set the room into fire.

There were four workers in the room. The closest worker to the door (about 5 feet) could escape safely without any injures. Unfortunately, Tinton position was the farthest from the door. When the blast happened, Tinton is facing the wall, unaware of it.

Tinton tried to reach the door by passing through the fire. The fire burnt his body and Tinton felt right at the front of the door. With the fire still burning his body, he cried for help. Thanks God, there were one worker that came back to help to put down the fire. Tinton was carried to the closest hospital.

At my workplace, I was informed that Tinton got an accident. I went to the hotel, but Tinton already sent to the hospital. Knowing that, I went directly to the hospital. When I first saw him at the hospital, even as a medical doctor, I was surprised to see his condition. His face was covered with dressings because it was still red hot. Body liquid was coming out of his hand and feet. An infusion needle was placed on one of his feet.

At the hospital, Tinton did not get a proper treatment. I requested to move Tinton to different hospital that has a surgeon (Please note that in Papua, they have a limited medical facilities and doctors). I thought that Tinton will have a better treatment. Later, I knew that I was wrong. At the second hospital, we have to wait 30 minutes before the surgeon arrived. The surgeon performed the surgery to clean up Tinton’s wound. The surgeon told me that everything going to be okay. That night Tinton threw up more than ten times. I asked the nurse to call the surgeon. The nurse said that she would. After a while, I asked the same thing to the nurse. The nurse kept giving me the empty promise. I went back and forth to the nurse room and knocking on the attending physician’s room.

The next morning the surgeon visited us. I told him that Tinton kept throwing up and I had reported it to the nurse and the attending physician. It turned out that the surgeon did not know about it. I wanted to cry.. I also reported that Tinton’s urine contained some blood.

However, the surgeon told me that it was okay. I learned that for burn victim they need infusion as much as possible, and the needles have to be inserted in two places. The surgeon kept telling that one is enough.

Hence, I decided to move him to Jakarta. I tried to find the fastest flight to Jakarta. To find it was not easy. We had to wait until tomorrow. Tinton kept throwing up and was not treated well with the nurses there. They don’t care that Tinton was hurt whenever they touched his hand and feet. That night, Tinton kept throwing up. The next day, we departed to Jakarta. Tinton has burn injury on both his hands, both his feet, and his back. The only part that is not burn is his chest and stomach.

Tinton was transferred to the airport with body diagnosed with sixty (60) percent burn injury. We have to wait in the ambulance because the flight is delayed. My heart was broken when I see him in pain when he was carried. The flight had to fly from Sorong to Manado. Before it continued to Makassar and lastly Jakarta. We departed from Sorong at 2 PM and arrived at 11 PM at Jakarta. Tinton was sent to RSCM Hospital Jakarta.

At RSCM, Tinton got the fluid needed that he should be getting on the first day. Tinton was admitted at ICU. The next day, the doctor told me to bring Tinton to Singapore because Indonesia Skin Donor Bank is empty. Once again, we have to find the flight.

That night, we were informed that Tinton can go. We left at 4th April 2012 early in the morning to Singapore. We arrived at 4 AM, Singapore time.

In Singapore, Tinton was taken care right away and send into surgery room. Here, Tinton was diagnosed with 71% burn injury and under resuscitated. He has to used the skin transplant from donor that is expensive. The skin transplant can temporarily cover the wound that is in the process of healing. At the end, the own healthy skin has to cover the wound. The burn victim is also susceptible to infection, kidney and lungs complications.

As I am writing this, Tinton already underwent 5 surgeries. Tomorrow, 18th April 2012, he will have another surgery. We don’t know how many more surgeries that he has to endure.. The surgery to take his healthy skin has not started because his condition is still unstable. The doctor afraid that taking his healthy skin can add more wound. Tinton is also diagnoses with sepsis.

(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sepsis). His body temperature is 40 degree Celcius fever and he has to undergo hemodialysis treatment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemodialysis)

I pray that Tinton can stabilize soon so that the doctor can use his healthy skin. At this moment, he is under resuscitated and his body is attached to infusion needles. I have faith that by God’s grace, Tinton will recover soon. We need the prayer support from everyone. Our hospital bill until 17th April 2012 is Singapore $190.000. We have deposited Singapore $160.000 and try to cover what we can. We pray that God will provide for us the rest. We need the prayer support from everyone. God Bless us all. Be safe peeps
